Direct write digital holography (DWDH) systems normally use a series of photographs of real-life scenes or video frames from computer-generated graphics as inputs to the direct writing process. In this paper, we will present a novel approach that creates a 3D data set from a virtual sculpture that is drawn by a series of hashes, lines and grooves using a virtual reality (VR) headset and a handheld controller.
