The art of metallizing surface relief structures have until now been based on an off-line process where the whole surface of the structured foil is metallized. This metallized foil containing diffractive surface relief structures, can subsequently be partially de-metallized by chemical means. It will be appreciated that such a process is time-consuming and generates more waste than an in-line, on-demand printing method. We present a substantially new process for cost effective partial, in-register, in-line print manufacturing of metallized nano-and micro structures.
